About Me
Hello, I am Dennis Blasius! I founded Dennis Blasius Consulting LLC with the goal of providing career, executive and leadership coaching services to federal, state and local government employees as well as managers and employees in private industry. I specialize in helping managers and senior executives improve performance, enhance communication, juggle work/ life priorities, maximize time management and personal accountability, deal with stress, assist in general career path decision-making and re-examine leadership styles.
My Experience
Career Experience
I recently retired from the U.S. Government after having held a variety of positions at various locations in the U.S. and overseas. Most recently, I was the Director of Field Operations in the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) Office of Compliance and Field Operations. I have 30 years of varied federal government service, mostly in supervisory and management roles. At CPSC, I worked in both the Compliance and Field Investigations Directorates. I was responsible for working with the Compliance, Epidemiology and Legal staffs to coordinate civil and criminal product safety investigations nationwide. I was responsible for CPSC’s nationwide Field staff; I also established and coordinated the CPSC’s Internet marketplace surveillance unit. I was a frequent trainer and speaker throughout the U.S. and internationally regarding consumer product safety compliance and enforcement topics. Before entering federal service, I spent 11 years in law enforcement as a police detective.
As a federal manager, I frequently found myself coaching and mentoring…and I loved it. I decided that I could only serve others well if I improved my own skills and knowledge in this area, and in 2015 I attended the rigorous International Coach Federation (ICF) two-semester Professional Coach training at the University of Wisconsin- Madison. Upon gaining ACC certification, I became the CPSC’s only ICF-certified executive/ career coach. I balanced coaching duties with my director responsibilities, and was able to formalize the internal coaching program in FY2017. I was also a member of the Federal Coaching Network, and provided one-on-one coaching for several other federal government agencies, primarily as part of leadership development programs for SES level senior executives.
My Education
I hold a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice and earned a Master’s degree in Managerial Communication from Concordia University. I attended the Strategic Management of Regulatory and Enforcement Agencies Program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, and the completed the Senior Leaders program at The George Washington University. I also completed an Executive Leadership graduate certificate program at Cornell University.
